Jack Doohan wordt per 2025 fulltime coureur voor BWT Alpine F1 Team

Jack maakt daarmee het rijdersduo compleet, naast Pierre Gasly die al eerder heeft getekend. Jack is de eerste deelnemer aan de Alpine Academy die promoveert tot een stoeltje in het team. Pierre en Jack zorgen voor een goede balans tussen jeugdigheid en ervaring en zullen samen verder bouwen aan een succesvolle toekomst.

De 21-jarige Australiër – zoon van legendarische vijfvoudig wereldkampioen 500 cc motorracen, Mick Doohan – was de afgelopen twee jaar al reserverijder voor het team, na een succesvolle carrière als junior in internationale eenzitterklassen.

Jack eindigde als tweede in het 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship en op de derde plaats van het 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship. Daarna werd hij in 2024 fulltime reservecoureur, waarbij hij in de simulator waardevolle bijdragen leverde voor het team.

Jack was de eerste coureur in de historie van de Formula 2 die zowel polepositie, winst als snelste ronde op zijn naam zette en ook nog iedere ronde aan de leiding reed. Dat was tijdens de 2023 Grand Prix van Hongarije. Daarvoor behaalde hij in twee seizoenen al zes overwinningen in die raceklasse, evenals vijf poleposities en nog eens vijf podiumplaatsen.

Gedurende het restant van raceseizoen 2024 blijft Jack reservecoureur voor het team. Ook zal hij deelnemen aan regelmatige Testing of Previous Cars (TPC)-evenementen, met de A522 Formula 1-auto. Ook blijft hij in geselecteerde weekenden zijn diensten leveren in de simulator.

Jack will become the first driver to graduate from the Alpine Academy into a race driver position with the team, so that is exceptionally pleasing for the team and its young driver pathway.
